Earlier this year, i made a 9 day South East Asian trip that included:

1 Formula 1 ticket for all 3 days
6 flights Bangalore - Signapore - Kuala Lumpur - Langkawi - KL - Singapore - Bangalore
Accomodation for 6 days
Buses/Trains within the city

Total cost: Rs. 25,000 or US$ 500

Not just Malaysia and Singapore, but you can pretty much go to any place in asia and back for less than 25k return and i'll tell you how!

1. Check out the budget airlines at
http://www.budgettraveller.info/forum/index.php/board,21.0.html

2. From India, there are 3 airlines that go to south east asia - Air Asia, Tiger Airways and Sri Lankan Airways. Tiger airways is the most convenient coz it leaves from Bangalore which is a well connected city. If you are traveling from Kolkatta, you would probably prefer Air Asia

3. You would need to get connecting flights since Tiger flies directly to singapore and Air Asia to KL. From there though, you can get to anywhere in Asia for really cheap. Check the routemaps for more details

4. Remember to book one-two months early and if you need to, buy luggage online coz it is much more expensive if you buy it at the airport!

Let me know if you need any other information Cheesy
