If you are going to Pondicherry, you cannot miss a hop over to Auroville. Auroville is an incredible place and has that auro of peace. It is just a few kms away from the main pondicherry city and you can easily get an auto to take you there for about 100 rupees. You can also probably take a bus. I've seen one around but i dont know where it start from.
There are people from all over the world co-existing in Auroville. I'm not exactly sure what they do but i've been told a bunch of them farm and grow their own stuff...There's a giant globe in Auroville that you can meditate in but you have to call 2 days in advance and inform them...it happens between 2 and 4:15 PM every day and the number is 0413-2622268.
I love the concept of Aurovile because it requires you to leave all religions behind and get in touch with your spiritual center! The giant globe is the biggest of its kind and there's a single beam of light that enters the globe from the top, falls on a large crystal and fills the globe from inside. I can't wait to get there and see how that actually is...
