    * Air-India Express
    * JetLite
    * Kingfisher Red
    * Spicejet
    * Goair
    * IndiGo

Well, these are called low-cost but aren't really tht cheap anymore. The best thing to do is, when you're looking for a cheap airline in India is to go to www.makemytrip.com or www.yatra.com and check for the fares. Then go to the actual website of the airline that suits you best and make the booking. That itself should save you 200 Rupees! www.ixigo.com is another good website to search for fares.

DO NOT fall for any of the offers they have. Most of them are pointless coz they give u discounts on the base fare and more often than not, the base fare is going to be ridiculously low like 500rupees while the taxes and surcharges are 300-4000 Rupees on which you dont get any discounts!

And it makes sense to travel by kingfisher or jet if you're just going to pay a couple of hundred more coz you get free food and the service is generally better!

Air asia's just added 3 more indian destinations - kochi, trivendrum and kolkatta...woohoo! wish they would add bangalore though...traveling to south east would be a lot simpler...plus they only fly to KL from these destinations...
